My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to jazz when... I was 12. I heard "Blues March" off the album Sonny Stitt with Art Blakey and the jazz messengers: In walked Sonny. I met... Ben Monder in 2010 and 2011. The best show I ever attended was... Paul Simon in 2002. Recently Jakob Bro with Thomas Morgan and Joey Baron at Dexter. That was outstanding. The first jazz record I bought was... Robben Ford and the blue line: "handful of blues" in 1995. My advice to new listeners... Make a list of stuff that you really like listening to. Make that list grow with you. Keep exploring new music all your life. New or old releases, it doesn't matter, they are new to you. And new uplifting, surprising, musical experiences is just about the best that can happen. To me. It alters and challenges my perspective of life, when it's good, honest and speaks to me. Not necessarily very complex, difficult music. Or maybe it is complex and difficult but what matters, is how it improves your life.
