David Drazin

David Drazin is an outstanding pianist with a unique style who plays blues, stride and silent film improvisations.

About Me

Dave loves playing hot, trad, Harlem Stride, Boogie Woogie, Blues, Bebop, Rock and Roll, Funk, Western Swing, modern and free jazz, and he loves accompanying silent films. Dave's improvisations for comedies and 1920s dramas with nightclub scenes often employ hot jazz and blues. At one of these performances, the 2003 Pordenone, Italy silent film festival, Dave was heard by Michael Chaplin, son of the famous comedian Charlie Chaplin. Mr. Chaplin invited Dave and his wife to the family estate in Switzerland, where Dave treated the family to a jazz concert on Charlie's piano.

Dave plays keyboards with the Jazz Masters every Friday night at the Hyde Park Ramada Inn, Chicago. He freelances with jazz and blues bands and as a soloist, and he is a regular member of a Chicago area ballroom band. Dave played the Chicago Blues Fest in 2007 and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest in 2008, backing sax legend Big Jay McNeely. In 2011, Dave played at the Tribute to Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Fest in Wisconsin, accompanying jazz singer Barbara Rosene. In 2014 Dave played at the Chicago Jazz Festival with the Jazz Masters.
