About Me

Life-long jazz fan Rick Carroll is the author of 20 books, including IZ Voice of The People, a Kiriyama Prize Notable Book of 2007, the biography of the late legendary Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo'ole of “Over The Rainbow” fame. An ex-San Francisco Chronicle writer, Carroll has interviewed and photographed jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Mann, Stan Getz, Illinois Jacquet, Dave Brubeck, Les McCann, and others. His reminiscences of Miles Davis and Janis Joplin appear in Monterey Jazz Festival: Forty Legendary Years, with a foreword by Clint Eastwood. Carroll and his wife, Marcie, publish small, important books of esoteric interest at Fish Towne Press, North Carolina.
