Priscilla Badhwar French Jazz Vocalist

About Me

Surrounded by art, dance, and music, Priscilla Badhwar grew up in Houston, Texas. She moved to Austin and attained her Bachelor of Arts in Music from The University of Texas at Austin. However, she did not stop there, though, putting her head down, working hard, and attaining a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the The University of Texas College of Pharmacy.

Over the years, she has developed a love for Brazilian and French jazz music. Her influences include the remarkable Blossom Dearie and the incomparable Henri Salvador. Of course, she cannot exclude the influences of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, Madeline Peyroux, so many other musical legends.

Mademoiselle is the title of Priscilla's new Jazz EP. It is a French Jazz Recording with a bit of a twist. It contains six tracks. The songs are comprised of works made popular by artists such as Henri Salvador, Blossom Dearie, Charles Trenet, and Salvadore Poe. Most of the songs are in French and are filled with colors and textures from around the world. The songs range from uplifting swing tunes to sultry bossa nova grooves. Mademoiselle is available on cdbaby.com.

My Jazz Story

Dream Big... When I first heard the works of the French singer Henri Salvador, I was completely inspired. The variety of colors, textures, and styles are countless. I had dreams of singing and performing these songs with a colorful and ethereal interpretation but also with the goal of capturing the playful and sensual spirit of Salvador's personality. So, out of these dreams came this French EP entitled Mademoiselle in which you will hear several tunes made popular by Henri Salvador. In a similar regard, Blossom Dearie's French works have always been an inspiration to me. Her songs exude a fun spirit but also display a solid articulate foundation. So, you will find a French Blossom Dearie tune as well. After working in the pediatric intensive care unit at a local children's hospital in Austin and the emergency deparment in Dallas for several years, your perspective on life changes. It can be a positive change. It can be a negative change. It can be both. You begin to learn to appreciate the small moments in time. The works on this EP are moments in time. They are moments that drive me to dream big and sing. After all, music and sound serves to heal in all capacities. Mademoiselle is a the new French jazz EP which was inspired by artists such as Henri Salvador and Blossom Dearie mentioned above. It is filled with Brazilian, Carribean, and Swing influences. You will find covers of works made popular by Henri Salvador, Blossom Dearie, and Charles Trenet. I have had the privilege to work with some of Austin's finest musicians including Suzi Stern, Eddy Hobizal, Steve Schwelling, David Pulkingham, and Daniel Durham. I am so grateful to this group for having helped bring this dream to life. Merci!
