About Me

I'm a tuba player by training and secretly wish to dominate the jazz world someday with my rendition of jazz tuba. As that will probably not transpire I'll stick with being a devoted fan. I'd love to see the image of jazz changed from the stereotypical smokey dive bar to the concert hall. Norman Granz had it right, in my opinion. Austria has Mozart, Germany Beethoven, and Russia Tchaikovsky. We have Ellington, Basie, Davis, and Brubeck (among many others). I feel we don't appreciate the art form enough in the states because it has surrounded us for so long we take it for granted.

My Jazz Story

I was turned onto jazz as a child by my older brother. He listened to it because it was the "cool" and "hip" thing to do. I suppose that's why I started listening as well (trying to be like my big brother). After a while his interest waned and he went on to other styles and genres. Jazz became ingrained inside of me and I've been a devotee ever since.
