Tyler Jennings Henderson

I am a student studying journalism and jazz trombone in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

About Me

I love jazz, whether I'm playing it on the trombone or writing about it. Grew up with music in the household and couldn't let it go. I've written for multiple newspapers and online publications and pick up the horn to play with jazz ensembles and bar bands, having had the opportunity to study with Richard Johnson and play with Wycliffe Gordon, Delfeayo Marsalis, Andy Martin, Byron Stripling, Geoff Keezer and more.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it is such a free art, able to be interpreted in so many ways. I first started to listen to and play jazz when I was young, listening to recordings of Miles Davis, Tom Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and Maynard Ferguson. Since then I have been in love with the music and dove into the history. I've had the opportunity to meet many jazz musicians, including but not limited to Robin Eubanks, Claudio Roditi, Geoff Keezer, Marshall Gilkes, Maria Schneider, Andy Martin, and Randy Brecker. I recently saw the SF Jazz Collective at the Dakota Jazz Club in the Twin Cities, that was my favorite performance that I've seen. To get into jazz, the first and most important thing to do is listen. And listen some more. Just dive into the history and learn what the players before us have done.
