My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's honest in every way and the music takes me to that place inside that touches my soul letting me know it's alive. I was first exposed to jazz when I was young and I would watch the Cosby Show. The show itself introduced me to many Jazz legends. The one in particular who left an imprint in my early childhood was the late great Betty Carter. I met Nnenna Freelon, Ron Carter, Rachelle Ferrell, Christian McBride, Cecil McBee, Betty Carter, Kurt Elling, Nancy Wilson, Ledisi, Mark Murphy, and more. The best show I ever attended was Betty Carter at the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square of Boston Massachusetts. The first jazz record I bought was Rachell Ferrell's "The First Instrument". Phenomenal album. My advice to new listeners Jazz ain't nuttin but soul music. Except it for what it is and allow it to move you. Once you listen to Jazz you'll never go back.
