My Jazz Story

I love jazz because... It keeps my feet tapping and my mind engaged. I was first exposed to jazz... Through the LP record format and Radio Canada. The best show I ever attended was... The series of perfomamces with Pat Metheny and Paul Motian, where I was able to sit about 15 feet away from them and soak in the music. The other ones that rival that are a week of listening to Oregon from a seat even closer and three days of Woody Shaw and Louis Hayes at 10 paces. The first jazz record I bought was... Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington double record with Barney Bigard and Trummy Young and Benny Goodman septet with Lionel Hampton and Charlie Christian. My advice to new listeners... Listen to tunes that you know the melodies. Find a groove that you can move your body to. I look forward to performing, sharing, teaching and dancing for many years to come.
