My Jazz Story

My father was a huge jazz fan. He loved vocalists and had gone to school with Sarah Vaughan. Growing up in New Jersey, I was exposed to all the jazz greats. Besides jazz, we also went to the city to see Broadway shows. My Aunt led a church choir and I sang in it starting at age three. Music has been a natural thing for me for as long as I can remember. I've sung all types of music and worked in my early years at Disneyland, Disneyworld and Opry Land. Eventually, I came back to the music my father played in our home in my youth. I have been blessed to have worked with so many great musicians and I've tried to learn as much as I can from them. It is always important to do your homework and know what the song you are singing is all about. It's also very important to listen to recordings of the greats so you know what they did with the material you want to sing. That is my best advice to young artists.
