Brandon Coleman
KY-based Jazz guitarist and composer.
About Me
Born in Pikeville, KY, Brandon Coleman came to music at an early age. There were always
guitars around his family home, and he was given his very own at the age of twelve. Initially
enamored with Chet Atkins, Jimi Hendrix and Danny Gatton, Brandon set out to teach himself
everything he could about music and the guitar. Shortly after, Brandon also began teaching
himself piano.
Soon after enrolling at Morehead State University, intent on being a lawyer, Brandon realized
he could major in music and promptly made the decision to change his major; he was given a
full scholarship to attend. During this time, he was able to study with Glenn Ginn on guitar
and Steve Snyder on piano and organ.
After graduating from Morehead, Brandon was accepted at the University of Louisville as a
Masters student, again on a full scholarship. He is currently in his final semester.
Brandon’s teaching skills have allowed him to travel to the cities of Quito, Cuenca and Loja in
Ecuador, where he taught masterclasses in jazz guitar. He has also taught clinics and
masterclasses at various colleges, high schools, and music stores in the Tri-State area.
Brandon has played with internationally acclaimed musicians such as Bucky Pizzarelli, Dick
Oatts, Joe Magnarelli, Mike Holober and Amina Figarova. He currently lives in Louisville,
Kentucky and leads his own groups, The Brandon Coleman Trio, Brandon Coleman’s Hard
Quartet and Anomaly. He is also a prolific sideman, being involved with D’Arkestra, Luke
McIntosh And The Flexi-Sextet and Drew Miller And The Heavy-Handed. He also keeps busy
as a freelance guitarist and pianist in the Louisville area.
Brandon is currently endorsed by ModTone effect pedals.
