About Me

Jazz vocalist, songwriter and composer Natalie Dietz has made a strong impression on the US and international jazz scene, impressing both audiences and critics alike with her strikingly original approach as a jazz composer and artist and ethereal voice. Accepted into the renowned jazz vocal program at New England Conservatory, Natalie honed her performing skills under the tutelage of jazz luminaries including Jason Moran, Donny McCaslin and Dave Holland. Her original compositions have attracted wide attention among her contemporaries with their complex harmonies combined with strong melodies. She is inspired to blend and create textures with the voice within an ensemble, using wordless melodies as well as lyrics. Her compositions explore the breadth of modern styles, distinguishing her as an innovative and multi-skilled artist. In 2013 she recorded her debut EP with highly esteemed New York City musicians Aaron Parks, Mike Moreno, Joshua Crumbly and Justin Brown to international critical acclaim (4/5 stars on All About Jazz). Other achievements include being offered a merit scholarship to New England Conservatory in Boston where studied with world-renowned artists including Dominique Eade, Donny McCaslin, Jason Moran, Ken Schaphorst and Dave Holland. Natalie is a winner of ASCAP's Herb Alpert 2016 National Young Jazz Composer's Award, and the New England Conservatory Spark award. She has performed her music in New York City at established venues including Club Bonafide, Shapeshifter Lab, Pianos and Rockwood Music Hall, in Boston at venues including New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall, The Beehive and Cambridge venues the Lilypad and Outpost 186. She has performed with established jazz artists including Mike Moreno, Sam Harris, Joshua Crumbly, Ben Monder and Colin Stranahan. She has held multi-year residencies at renowned live music venues including Fine and Rare and the Flatiron Room in Manhattan (2017-2020) among many other live shows. In late 2019 she was commissioned by New York-based composer Quentin Angus, jazz department chair at the Borough of Manhattan Community College as lyricist for one of his original compositions ‘New Beginning’ and directly following to write lyrics for an SATB choral piece for the university titled ‘Together Now’, a cultural diversity-themed song. The piece was was both performed and recorded by the choir and became the 2019 holiday greeting on City University of New York’s home page. The piece was also turned into a virtual choir project by the university’s music department. In 2022 she recorded her first full-length album of original music under jazz label ABC Jazz, which was released in March 2023. ”In the clotted deluge of jazz vocals, Dietz's offering floats to the top by virtue of its light touch and grace” - All About Jazz (USA) – FOUR STARS ”Natalie Dietz is an incredible singer with a beautiful clean and warm tone quality in tune with a sense of space and phrasing. She's supported by some of my favorite young lion musicians and the result is outstanding.
