Oren Levine
Jazz pianist and composer from Washington, DC
About Me
Oren Levine is an accomplished jazz pianist and composer from Washington, DC.
He performs frequently in the Washington, DC area, leading his own groups and
performing regularly with DC vocalists Aaron Myers and Barbara Papendorp. He
also is a long-standing member of the house band at the weekly DC Jazz Jam.
Oren's album of eleven original jazz songs Making Up For Lost Time was nominated for the 2019 Washington Area Music
(Wammie) award for Best Jazz Album, and received two Best Jazz Song nominations for Let's Wander (featuring vocalist
Barbara Papendorp) and Alternative Facts (featuring Lionel Lyles on tenor sax).
Oren’s original song “Stand Right”, recorded by Aaron Myers, was featured on
NPR and in the Washington Post. Oren's also contributed several songs to Jason Mendelson’s MetroSongs project
(http://www.metrosongs.org).
Oren developed his skills as a performer and accompanist through private study
with Harry Appelman, Frank Wilkins, and Boston legend Harvey Diamond. As a
regular participant in the Vermont Jazz Center summer workshop, he studied
piano and theory with Eugene Uman and Ray Gallon.
