David Janeway

About Me

David Janeway grew up in Detroit and began studying classical piano at the age of five. Early influences included Harold McKinney, Marcus Belgrave and Denny Zeitlin. After moving to New York City in 1978, Janeway began studying with the late Albert Dailey. He worked with various latin/jazz groups and recorded with the salsa band Sabor. He has worked with Art Farmer, The Supremes, Michal Urbaniak, David ”Fathead” Newman, Tom Harrell, Bob Hurst, Valery Ponomarev, Eddie Henderson, Harvie S, Benny Golson and others. His recordings as a leader feature Sonny Fortune, Billy Hart, Bob Berg, Harvie S and others. His Timeless CD is “Inside Out” and features Sonny Fortune and Billy Hart. His latest trio CD, Distant Voices, on Steeplechase, features the working trio with Billy Hart, drums and Cameron Brown, bass.
