Guitarist and composer interested in the intersection of various styles of improvised and composed music.
He's been part of Madrid's jazz and improvised music scene since moving back from London in 2011. Álvaro holds a BA(Hons)degree in Jazz and has studied with Stuart Hall, Chris Batchelor, Nikki Illes, John Stowell and Jonathan Kreisberg.
He currently co-leads Öpik-3, a firey avant-jazz/rock/metal trio making waves on the Spanish jazz circuit, whose debut album was released in 2013 through Iluso Records and is getting good reviews from specialized press and other
artists. Álvaro is also part, along with drummer Michael Caratti, alto saxophonist Álvaro Pérez and bassist Sergio Mena, of Gran Masa, an avant-jazz quartet that plays fresh and energetic music heavily influenced by the Downtown NY sound and ethos with a strong focus on improvisation. Debut album is also out now on Iluso Records, artist-run record label that Domene co-founded in April of 2013, dedicated to support and disseminate genre defying music and unrestrained artistic expression.
He's also active as an educator in the Madrid area.
