MY NAME IS BOB BOVI, I WRITE ARTICLES FOR THE RHODE ISLAND POP MUSIC ARCHIVE, STARTED BY RICK BELLAIRE. I HAD A JAZZ BAND CALLED, THE BOB BOVI TRIO WITH MARK TABER-PIANO,DENNY DOW -DRUMS, MYSELF-UPRIGHT BASS. AND “SPECIAL GUEST” ART PELOSI -TENOR SAX, AND SONNY CASSO -ON VIBES! [DENNY DOW WAS BOBBY HACKETT'S NEPHEW] HE LATTER BECAME BOBBY'S DRUMMER,AND HE WAS THE ONE WHO FOUND HIM AFTER THE FATAL HEART ATTACK ON CAPE COD. BOBBY WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE AND THE LATE BIG JOHN BOVI. IN THE FIFTIES MY COUSIN HAD THE BANDS ART PELOSI AND THE ART TONES AND TONY TOMASSO AND THE JEWELS OF DIXIE, FEATURED AT BOVI'S TAVERN IN EAST PROVIDENCE R.I. .... BOBBY HACKETT HAD AN OPEN INVITATION TO BE A SPECIAL GUEST, WHEN HE WAS IN TOWN TO VISIT HIS FAMILY. HE PLAYED AT BOVI'S MANY TIMES AND PACKED THE HOUSE. I HAVE SEVERAL STORIES ABOUT BOBBY HACKETT, AND “ALL THAT JAZZ” AT BOVI'S. DUKE BELAIRE AND HIS 16-PIECE BAND, PLAYED ON MONDAYS STARTING IN 1969, EVERY WEEK FOR THIRTY TWO YEARS. AND FOR THE LAST TWELVE YEARS, THE GREAT JOHN ALMARK AND HIS 16- PIECE JAZZ BAND “KEEPS THE BEAT GOING” EVERY MONDAY NIGHT! THAT STORY WE JUST PUBLISHED ON THE ARCHIVE WEB SITE. ripopmusic.org CHECK IT OUT! AND NOW YOU KNOW THE INSIDE STORY !!! MORE TO COME.
