Ross Kratter is a New York-based bassist, composer, and arranger who currently studies bass with Mike Richmond and Ron McClure, and composition and arranging with Rich Shemaria at New York University's Steinhardt School. Other teachers have included Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Anthony Wellington, Frank Hansen and John DeWitt. Kratter formed his big band, the Ross Kratter Jazz Orchestra, to showcase his own original music and original arrangements with an incredible lineup of musicians backing him. Kratter has performed with musicians such as Shelly Berg, Allen Vizzutti, Ron McClure, Jean-Michel Pilc, Bruce Arnold, Gabriel Alegria, Frank Lacy, Pete McGuinness, Salim Washington, Ralph Lalama, Billy Drewes, and many others.
Along with his work in the jazz idiom, Ross Kratter is also a very active theatre musician, having played string bass, electric bass, tuba, and/or trombone for over 40 shows to date, including many premieres and off-Broadway productions. He also works as an orchestrator and copyist for theatre.
Kratter is a member of the Associated Musicians of Greater New York, Local 802 AFM, as well as BMI.
