American Voices and the U.S. Embassy to Kuwait are partnering to conduct a series of jazz concerts and educational programs in Kuwait as part of Jazz Appreciation Month. To promote cultural engagement, the Jazz From J-Z program will feature jazz musicians CoCo York and Mike del Ferro conducting a series of workshops and performances in Kuwait City.

On Monday April 9, 2012, CoCo York and Mike del Ferro will hold jazz workshops with music students at Kuwaiti universities including GUST and the American University of Kuwait, as well as a jazz workshop and performance at the Al-Amricani Cultural Center.

On Tuesday April 10, 2012, CoCo York and Mike Del Ferro will conduct a jazz masterclass and performance at the Higher Institute of Musical Arts, as well as a performance at the LoYAC Youth Development Center.

CoCo York and Mike del Ferro have been pioneers in jazz diplomacy. Coco York and the Mike del Ferro Trio performed together in 2005 in Kabul for the American Voices Jazz Bridges Afghanistan program, which was the first American jazz concert in Kabul in 25 years, as well as Jazz Bridges programs in Burma, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Vietnam.

Since 1993, American Voices has been at the forefront of cross- cultural engagement around the globe. Founded with a focus on the recently independent nations of Central and Eastern Europe, American Voices has expanded its mission towards supporting youth in nations emerging from conflict or isolation. American Voices has presented concerts, workshops and summer youth performing arts academies in 110 countries worldwide. American Voices has taken its unique brand of cultural engagement programs including Jazz Bridges, Youth Excellence on Stage (YES) Academy and Hiplomacy to nations such as Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

American Voices programming provides much needed expertise and support to aspiring young musicians, dancers and actors, as well as enhancing cultural understanding and communication among peoples and nations. In recognition of its work, U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy (USCCD) selected American Voices as a “Best Practice Organization” in 2010.
