212-614-0505 Modern vocalist Jay Clayton, soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom and elektro-acoustic percussionist Jerry Granelli founded the collaborative trio Outskirts in 1988. Although they had been working together in different formats since 1979, the first formal presentation of this unique trio happened at the Cobi Narita's Jazz Center in New York in 1988. Their daring improvisational music features traditional instruments enhanced by innovative electronics. Each member of the group contributes original compositions to the programs as well as performing jazz standards with a unique electronic spin.

“While maintaining their roots in bebop and Coltrane, they push the music into the future with free-jazz instrumental and group improvisation techniques, plus some of the most innovative use of electronics heard in jazz today." ~ Ed Hazell, The Boston Phoenix
