Following on the success of their 2004 tour of Japan, the Ron Davis Trio are returning to Asia for a series of concerts at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, and for their first foray into Indonesia.

From November 17 to 27, the Trio (Ron Davis--piano; Drew Birston--bass; Aubrey Dayle--drums) will play and give workshops to music fans and jazz students across major Indonesian cities. The tour will introduce the country to the Ron Davis Trio's brand of energetic swinging music, and to the tunes heard on their two most recent recordings Mungle Music (2004, Davinor Records 1321), and Shimmering Rhythm (2005, Davinor Records 3455)

Ron and the Trio will begin in Denpasar on the isle of Bali, for the Bali Jazz Festival. They then move on to performances in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya over the following 10 days. “Indonesia is a stunningly beautiful country with a long history" says Ron Davis. “We don't hear much about Indonesia in the West. Yet it is rich with music, unique sounds, and a heightened appreciation for the arts. We couldn't be more excited to explore the country and culture, and to represent Canada and Canadian music."

The Ron Davis Trio then travel to Japan, where they will perform at the Canadian Embassy in downtown Tokyo, across from the Imperial Palace. These performances will mostly comprise Embassy events with members of the Japanese music industry, as well as diplomats. Ron Davis comments: “Japan is the largest music market, per capita, in the world. Canadian music, thanks largely to the work of the Embassy, holds a special place in the hearts and ears of Japanese listeners. We are very fortunate to meet and play for people in the music industry there."

In 2004, the Ron Davis Trio released Mungle Music in Japan, as part of official celebrations of the 75th Anniversary of relations between Canada and Japan. On this upcoming tour, Ron and the Trio will be reunited with many of the friends they made last year, and also acquaint new audiences to their music.

The Trio are also looking forward to the Japanese release of Shimmering Rhythm, their ambitious and innovative recording of energetic, melodic jazz with classical, klezmer and world influences. The CD is already garnering international acclaim ("one of the most enjoyable jazz releases of 2005" - Zeitgeist, Scotland.), as it makes its way onto radio and digital service playlists across the world.

The Ron Davis Trio has been called “one of Canada's hottest acts in both bop and pop circles" by CNET in the U.S. At home, Jazz Canadiana says the Ron Davis Trio is “destined for longevity and well-deserved plaudits." Ron and his Trio mates continue to carry their sound, and the sound of Toronto and Canadian jazz abroad.
