Melbourne, Australia based act, Collard Greens & Gravy are releasing their 5th album on Monday, September 13th 2010.
The album title is Juke Joint Boogie!" (BMM 357.2) and is a combination of original and cover tunes
The album's direction is based upon the early Sun Record's Blues recordings, of such artists as Howling Wolf, Junior Parker and Doctor Ross.
The music of those artists had a raw, primal, rough and tumble, which despite being record in the 1950's, sounds more mean than most recordings since." states Ian Collard, vocalist and harmonica player of the act.
Collard Greens & Gravy formed in 1997. Retaining their original line up of Ian Collard, James Bridges, (guitar) and Anthony Shorty" Shortte on drums, they have since won an ARIA award, 2001 Blues & Roots, a Best Independent Blues release in the USA, (2005), been runners up in the International Blues Challenge, held annually in Memphis, USA, played numerous festivals and toured constantly.
The album is a first for the band, in that they have recorded mixed and mastered digitally. Just as the studios recording Blues in the1950's were pushing the technological possibilities of capturing the sounds of the artists, so this album is a recording utilizing the technology of 2010.
