IAJE/BET on Jazz Sisters in Jazz Collegiate All-Stars to perform at 2001 European Jazz Festivals

The International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) announces the inaugural European Jazz Festivals Organization (EJFO) festival tour of the IAJE/BET on Jazz Sisters in Jazz Collegiate All-Stars. The group is scheduled to perform at the following EJFO festivals during July of 2001: Jazz Fest Wien (Vienna, Austria); Jazz A Vienne (Vienne, France); International Istanbul Jazz Festival (Istanbul, Turkey); North Sea Jazz Festival (The Hague, Netherlands); Festival de Jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz Airtel (Vitoria, Spain); and Pori Jazz Festival (Pori, Finland). Each festival will provide memorable opportunities for the group including performances on high profile stages and numerous educational experiences including professional artist interaction, participation in organized jam sessions, and clinic/workshop sessions.



The IAJE/BET on Jazz Sisters In Jazz Collegiate Sextet will perform in a free concert on Friday, May 10 at the 6th Annual Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Festival held in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. The performance is sponsored in part by IAJE, BET on Jazz, and the Kennedy Center Education Department and will be broadcast live over the internet at http://kennedy-center.org/millennium.



As the 2001 IAJE/BET on Jazz Sisters in Jazz Collegiate All-Stars, a sextet of musicians selected from a highly competitive international pool of women applicants, the group performed at the Annual IAJE Conference in New York, January 10-13, 2001. The six outstanding students chosen this year are: Airelle Besson (trumpet, representing the Conservatoire de Paris, France), Tara Davidson (alto saxophone, from the University of Toronto, Canada), Sandra Hempel (guitar, from Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Laila Biali (piano, from Humber College in Ontario, Canada), Karine Chapdelaine (bass, from McGill University in Montr
