The Los Angeles Jazz Collective is bringing together an impressive collection of jazz artists for a two-night festival at the Blue Whale, one of the newest and most promising additions to the Los Angeles jazz club scene. Since opening its doors earlier this year, this Little Tokyo jazz club has become a favorite among musicians and listeners alike in Los Angeles. The players that have agreed to perform on the festival are representative of an emerging generation of jazz musicians in Los Angeles, artists who place a premium on creative improvising and original writing.
The LAJC was founded in 2008 as an organization dedicated to the promotion and display of jazz as an important art form, with the intention of providing a forum that will foster greater community among the many artists who consider jazz to be their main form of expression. A main goal of the collective is to promote regular events throughout Southern California that feature music by member-artists, as well as music from notable guest performers and music from student-led ensembles from local area schools.
The LAJC Summer Festival 2010 is the latest in a series of groundbreaking events organized by the Los Angeles Jazz Collective, events which have served to highlight the vast amount of hidden talent that exists in and around (and often times in spite of) the largest music industry in the world.
