Los Angeles, California. Home," Jane Monheit's eagerly anticipated new CD, is set for release by Emarcy/Universal Records on September 21st, 2010. An ode to the golden age of the jazz standard--the genre which Jane identifies with most--"Home" celebrates the treasured tracks of songwriters and lyricists past and present whom Monheit greatly admires including Rodgers and Hart and Schwartz & Dietz. A sumptuously sung passionate song cycle of 12 tunes self-produced by the modern-day jazz diva, Home" is Monheit's tenth CD and will be accompanied by a world tour beginning in the Fall.
I wanted to return Home" to doing what I love best," says Jane, Getting back to my roots. For me, there's nothing like singing a jazz standard and giving it new life through one's own interpretation; bringing it to a new audience in a whole new and different light."
Accompanying Monheit on Home" are long-time Monheit band-members Michael Kanan (piano), Neal Miner on bass and Rick Montalbano on drums, who were joined on the CD by guest artists John Pizzarelli (vocals and guitar), Peter Eldridge (vocals), Frank Vignola (guitar), Joe Magnarelli (trumpet and flugelhorn), Mark O'Connor (violin) and Larry Goldings (piano).
Jane Monheit released her debut album, Never Never Land," in 2000 which remained on the Billboard Jazz chart for over a year and was voted Best Debut Recording by the members of the Jazz Journalists Association. Her second release, Come Dream With Me," came just a year later and landed atop the Billboard Jazz charts, while In The Sun," her 2003 release, earned a Grammy nomination for Vince Mendoza for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals."
Monheit's 2007 CD, Surrender," debuted at number one on the Billboard Jazz chart, while in conjunction with her last CD, the critically-lauded The Lovers, The Dreamers And Me," the New York Times exclaimed, The pristine clarity of her voice is a remarkable asset." Jane continues to tour and perform in front of sold-out audiences worldwide, with dates accompanying the release of Home" throughout the Fall of 2010 and well into 2011. Said Time Magazine of Monheit, Jane Monheit can't miss. She has, in a word, everything."
A complete track listing for Home" is as follows: A Shine On Your Shoes," There's A Small Hotel," This Is Always," Tonight You Belong To Me," Look For The Silver Lining," I'll Be Around," Everything I've Got Belongs To You," It's Only Smoke," The Eagle and Me," I Didn't Know About You/All Too Soon," Isn't It A Lovely Day" and While We're Young."
