Acclaimed Keyboardist and Composer James Auburn has a lot going on these days! He's recently been appointed to the position of Music Director for R&B/Soul/Jazz/Gospel vocalist NICHELLE. He's also the Keyboardist and Music Director for Jazz and Hip-Hop infused R&B/Soul quintet VELVET STYLUS. And, he frequently performs with Jazz/Blues/World/Techno hybrid WEATHER OUTPOST 12, not to mention his freelancing.

James, originally from BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI, and a graduate from BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC's Professional Music Program, has recently started teaching as well. As the Hip-Hop History educator at the HIP-HOP MECCA PROJECT in Dorchester, MA, James shares the rich development of the genre with students aged 8-21 in a diverse afterschool program. He also accompanies voice lessons, and serves as a member of the curriculum and library development teams.

James Auburn is a Composer-member of ASCAP and stands as the Co-Founder and Resident Hip-Hop Historian for the BOSTON HIP-HOP ALLIANCE, a service organization designed to promote unity in the Boston Hip-Hop Community, and to offer resources and professional development to its many members. James also writes on a freelance basis for MUSICBIZADVICE.COM, and is working on an article about Bass legend JACO PASTORIUS. He currently resides in the Boston area.
