ABC Radio launched dig JAZZ at the 2004 Wangaratta Festival Of Jazz.
dig JAZZ is a new internet radio service, available as part of dig radio. With the success of dig radio - which was launched three years ago – it is expanding with genre-based 24-hour-a-day programming, beginning with a non-stop jazz service.
Dig JAZZ was launched by outstanding Australian jazz pianist and composer, Paul Grabowsky.
Whether you're a dedicated jazz fan, or just an occasional listener, go to dig JAZZ for a diverse mix of classic and contemporary jazz performances and styles. From the jazz heartland of America and the ever-growing global jazz scene to the many great Australian stylists – dig JAZZ will bring you music from across many eras and styles.
As well as the music, dig JAZZ also provides information about the music being played, including the performer and album details, plus its release date. Listeners are also able to discuss each song through the dig JAZZ music forum.
On dig JAZZ you’ll find links to features, concerts and news that will introduce you to new releases, interviews, live performances and other specials.
”It’s appropriate and exciting for the ABC to be offering this new service to Australian jazz fans”, Tony Walker, Manager, ABC Digital Radio said today.
“dig Internet Radio has proved to be tremendously popular with fans of a wide range of music styles that don’t often get much airplay elsewhere, and now we’re delighted to be broadening dig’s role and appeal with it’s first specialist music service – dig JAZZ.”
As part of the festivities for the launch, six-piece Australian instrumental outfit Wanderlust performed at the Playhouse Theatre in Wangaratta. Hosted by Paul Petran from Radio National’s Live On Stage, the concert was simulcast on Radio National and through dig JAZZ. This concert will be streamed again on dig JAZZ in the very near future.
