David Sanborn and John Pizzarelli at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa - January 29 through January 31

A legendary resort hosts the legends of jazz

ASHEVILLE, NC -- The eighteenth annual “All That Jazz" weekend at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa will bring legendary jazz artists to Asheville, North Carolina for two days of concerts and jazz themed special events. Jazz legends David Sanborn and The John Pizzarelli Quartet will headline the performers at “All That Jazz" weekend, coming up January 29 through January 31, 2010 at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa.

“All That Jazz" weekend at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa has earned national recognition as one of the premiere jazz festivals in the southeast. “All That Jazz" Weekend will feature evening and afternoon concerts in the Grand Ballroom, numerous jazz artists performing in the Great Hall all weekend long, “Meet the Artists" receptions following each evening concert and a Saturday morning jazz clinic.

On Friday, January 29, The John Pizzarelli Quartet takes the stage at 8 p.m. One of jazz's most prolific guitarists, John Pizzarelli has recorded more than 20 albums and has appeared on more than 40 albums of other artists including James Taylor, Rosemary Clooney and Natalie Cole. Internationally known for classic standards, late-night ballads and the cool jazz flavor he brings to performances, Pizzarelli has set the standard for stylish modern jazz. Often compared to Nat King Cole, Pizzarelli is among the prime contemporary interpreters of jazz.

Multi Grammy award winner David Sanborn headlines the show at 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 30. Sanborn has been called the most influential saxophonist on pop, rhythm & blues, and crossover music of the past 20 years. His greatest contributions to music have been his passionate sound and his emotional interpretations of melodies. Though Sanborn has worked in many genres, his solo recordings typically blend jazz with instrumental pop and rhythm & blues. He released his first solo album in 1975, but has been playing the saxophone since before he was in high school. Sanborn has also appeared on both radio and television. Since the late 1980s he has been a regular guest member of Paul Shaffer's band on Late Night with David Letterman.

The roster for past performances at “All That Jazz" weekend at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa has included Dave Brubeck, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample & The Crusaders, Lou Rawls, The Manhattan Transfer, The Marsalis family, Diane Schuur and many other jazz legends.

The “All That Jazz" Package at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa includes:

  • Two nights of resort accommodations
  • Breakfast daily per adult
  • Admission to all of the weekend's Jazz concerts and events
  • Admission to both “Meet the Artist" receptions following the evening concerts
