Maceo Parker Debuts at Jazz at Lincoln Center
November 13 & 14 The Allen Room

Maceo Parker, perhaps best known as the second-in-command to the legendary James Brown, helped define funk from its origins. A long-venerated saxophone master, he will be playing and singing music he recorded with James Brown and classic R&B tunes from his recent salute to Ray Charles.

Since 1964, Parker has played with James Brown, Parliament, Bootsy Collins, Prince, Keith Richards and Bachir Attar. The saxophonist has appeared on dozens of R&B, soul, funk and rock albums. This is Parkers first performance at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

In the mid-80s, a new generation of saxophone players emerged inspired by Maceo Parker. Alto saxophonists Steve Coleman, Greg Osby and Kenny Garrett began searching the funk frontier for new sounds to the instrument.
