The solo concert is many ways the most challenging of musical forms. There is no support underneath or above, no one else onstage to communicate with, no one trading ideas, no one to take over for a while. On the other hand, there is total freedom; one can go wherever one wants to at any moment. A solo concert has automatic intimacy; it's just a performer and the audience, and there is no place for either one to hide.
