Stan Kenton: This is an Orchestra!

Discuss

Stan Kenton
The University of North Texas Press has confirmed publication of a new book on Stan, with an anticipated publishing date of Spring, 2010.

This exciting new project takes an in-depth look at Stan's life and music. Author Michael Sparke will be known to many Kenton devotees for his discographical work, and his liner notes on labels such as Capitol, Mosaic, Tantara and Status. Sparke writes from a fan's point of view, but sorts the musical wheat from the chaff, with copious backing opinions from the dozens of alumni he has interviewed and has corresponded with over 60 years of research, including Kenton himself.

This is an orchestra! will provoke controversy, criticism and praise, but it is a book no Kentonite or jazz lover will want to miss.

Watch for further details, including price and exact publication date over the coming months.

A “companion" 2--CD set of previously unissued recordings is also in preparation for release on the Tantara label, celebrated for its adventurous musical policies and high- quality audio.

This Is an Orchestra!

The essential book for all Stan Kenton fans
