Universal Music Australia to Distribute Savoy Label Group

Discuss

Universal Music Australia has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with the US based Savoy Label Group which includes Denon Classics, SLG Records, 429 Records and Savoy Jazz.

UMA is Australia's leading music company and SLG is home to many of the greatest recordings in contemporary jazz by artists such as Charles Mingus, Milt Jackson, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Denon Classics is one of the world's most respected labels.

SLG President Steve Vining said, “SLG is thrilled to be associated with the Universal Australia Team - we believe they are the ideal partners for our broad range of pop, jazz, classical and adult alternative releases for the Australian market and look forward to working with them on a wide range of innovative marketing in support of our new releases and extensive catalogue."

UMA Managing Director George Ash said, “Steve and the team at the Savoy Label Group (SLG) are leading the market in the US in many areas of the industry, from Jazz to Classics, to contemporary. SLG's A&R edge will fit perfectly with our team here in Australia. Our first major release will be The Features who have delivered an absolute ripper of an album and I know their association with Kings of Leon will give them a great start here. We are ecstatic to be working with Steve and the SLG team."

Universal Music Group is the world's leading music company with wholly owned record operations or licensees in 77 countries. Universal Music Group's record labels include Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, Disa, Emarcy, Fonovisa, Interscope Geffen A&M Records, Island Def Jam Music Group, Lost Highway Records, Machete Music, MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville, Mercury Records, Philips, Polydor Records, Universal Motown Records Group, Universal Music Latino, Universal Records South, and Verve Music Group as well as a multitude of record labels owned or distributed by its record company subsidiaries around the world. The Universal Music Group owns the most extensive catalogue of music in the industry. UMG's catalogue is marketed through two distinct divisions, Universal Music Enterprises (in the U.S.) and Universal Strategic Marketing (outside the U.S.). Universal Music Group is a unit of Vivendi, a global media and communications company.

The Savoy Label Group (SLG) features not only the historic Savoy Jazz label but also the 429 Records and Denon Records labels. SLG is the North American unit of Columbia Music Entertainment (formerly Nippon Columbia), the oldest music company in Japan. Newly reorganized and now headed by Chairman Strauss Zelnick, Columbia Music Entertainment has re-emerged as a significant creative force with a stable of newly signed platinum-selling artists. SLG is a Grammy Award winner and one of the most successful marketers of adult music in the U.S. and focuses on the adult alternative genres, classical, jazz, new age, and rock.
