Featuring Three-Time Grammy Nominee Hubert Laws

GOLD NOTE MUSIC has announced the latest release from CAROL DUBOC, hailed as “one of the most interesting and dynamic jazz singers of her generation” by Jazz Times Magazine. The platinum-selling vocalist, songwriter and arranger will introduce her new Burt Bacharach Songbook in stores and online on August 18, 2009. Ms. Duboc, who also serves as producer and arranger, brings her unique jazz sensibility to a collection of contemporary pop classics by fellow Kansas City-born songwriter, Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David.

Selections range from a playful take on “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” to a paired down, heartfelt version of “Anyone Who Had a Heart.” Duboc’s trademark sensuality comes through in her simmering interpretation of “Walk on By” and her refreshing perspective as a songwriter is highlighted on the disc’s only original track “My Melody.” The album also features intricate and effortless contributions by world-renowned flautist, Hubert Laws as well as musicians Danny Embrey on guitar, Joe Cartwright on piano, Bob Bowman on bass, Tim Cambron on drums and Luis Conte on percussion.

CAROL DUBOC has sold over three million records as a writer and arranger and has worked with Patti Labelle, Tom Jones and Jeff Lorber, among many others. Burt Bacharach Songbook is Duboc’s fifth release following her four critically acclaimed albums beginning in 2002, and her big screen debut as “Pumpkin” in Be Cool in 2005, which starred John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Danny DeVito. Duboc’s music can be heard on radio stations across the country.

Carol Duboc first stepped out as a solo artist with her debut album With All That I Am in 2001. She immediately began earning critical acclaim as one of the top new jazz singers on the music scene. Sandy Shore of smoothjazz.com announced “Smooth Jazz has a new poster girl!”

Her inspirational short CD, I Stand for America, earned Carol national recognition. In a moving tribute to the heroes and the fallen at Ground Zero, CNN’s “Larry King Live” chose Carol’s inspirational song “I Stand for America” as the musical backdrop for a video album of photos now burned into our minds. Following her auspicious debut, Carol’s second full release was simply titled Duboc in 2003. Carol’s 2005 release, entitled All Of You, is another extension of her tremendous talent. She was also featured on NBC and SmoothJazz TV. Christopher Loudon of Jazz Times Magazine writes that Carol “has cleverly shaped an evocative excavation of love in all its forms.”

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Carol moved to Los Angeles to attend USC’s school of music where she majored in vocal performance and music composition and minored in music engineering. While at USC, Carol’s soulful vocal style and songwriting talents attracted the attention of R&B producer Teddy Riley. She quickly began working with some of the best producers, writers and musicians in the business, including Gerald Albright, George Duke, Maurice White, Patrick Moten, Joe Sample and the Fine Young Cannibals.

Her writing and arranging success has included, among other things, the song “This Word is All” on Patti LaBelle’s Gems CD, which went Gold, as well as the title cut, “Precious”, on Chante Moore’s Gold CD. Carol also penned the hit single “Never Do You Wrong” for Stephanie Mills, and the song “That Boy” on Jade’s Jade To The Max CD, which attained Platinum status.

Carol is also the founder of the popular website Wineandmusic.com, the #3 radio station in the genre on Live365.com, which specializes pairing fine wine with great music.

HUBERT LAWS – who has earned three Grammy Award nominations in his distinguished career – is one of the few classical artists who has also mastered jazz, pop, and rhythm-and-blues genres; moving effortlessly from one repertory to another. He has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, with the orchestras of Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Cleveland, Amsterdam, Japan, Detroit and with the Stanford String Quartet. He has given performances at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl and was a member of the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera Orchestras.

Mr. Laws has been involved in unique projects such as collaborations with Quincy Jones, Bob James, and Claude Bolling for Neil Simon’s comedy California Suite and film scores for The Wiz, The Color Purple, A Hero Ain’t Nothing But A Sandwich, and Spot Marks The X. There are 20 albums in Mr. Laws’ discography for such record companies as Atlantic, CBS, CTI, including My Time Will Come and Storm Then The Calm for the Music Masters record label.
