New York, NY – Drummer Lewis Nash blazes his quintet with percussive drive and the Caribbean Jazz Project with vibraphonist Dave Samuels brings spicy swing to the headline features for episode 5 of the second season of Jazz it Up! In exclusive interviews (heard during the second of two songs featured by each) Samuels tells host Greg Thomas the origins of his Grammy award-winning group and discusses the recording “Afro Bop Alliance,” and Nash describes his musical vision as a band leader, derived from his many years as a sideman to the giants of jazz.

VINTAGE: Nina Simone, an often controversial artist, sings and plays piano in front of a live audience in England in 1968, chastising evil doers of all stripes who will “Go to Hell" for their misdeeds.
JAZZ'NIQUE: In episode 4 of this season of Jazz it Up!, Stanley Jordan performed on piano and guitar simultaneously. In this episode he demonstrates his “touch" technique by comparing it to the usual way of playing the guitar, and ends with a rendition of a J.S. Bach composition, written originally for piano.

In this episode Jazz it Up! reports on the U.S. Mint's release of a Washington D.C. coin for everyday use that bears the image of the maestro Duke Ellington, born in the nation’s capital 110 years ago this month.
Jazz it Up! dedicates this episode to the memory of Gerry Niewood and Coleman Mellet, who were members of trumpeter Chuck Mangione’s band. They were aboard Flight 3407 which crashed tragically in Buffalo, New York on February 13, 2009.
