"Few singers could assume the Robeson character better than White, and even fewer could evoke the sound of his rich and apparently bottomless voice." The Times (London)

The Paul Robeson Legacy is a collection of spirituals and ballads made famous by the legendary singer, actor and civil rights activist Paul Robeson, arranged specially for Willard White. This Multi-channel Super Audio CD is available now from Linn Records (AKD 218).

For more information visit www.LinnRecords.com/WillardWhite.

Song List 1. Witness 2. Mood Indigo 3. Ezekiel saw the Wheel 4. All God's Children got a Robe 5. Didn't my Lord deliver Daniel 6. Eriskay Love Lilt 7. Lazy Bones 8. Got the South in my Soul 9. Go down Moses 10. Joe Hill 11. Scandalise my Name 12. On my Journey Now

Willard White’s vivid stage presence and undeniable charisma are captured in the recording which is brought further to life by Super Audio surround sound technology. Willard White’s wholly well-judged interpretations move lightly from wit and humour to profound gravitas, as these iconic songs demand.

The life and works of Paul Robeson have a particular resonance for Willard White. The experience of hearing one of Robeson’s recordings was a significant influence on Willard’s decision to become a singer.

Paul Robeson was one of the most remarkable performers of the 20th Century. In his heyday he combined artistic popularity with moral authority. His passion for Negro Spirituals has had lasting impact, presenting them as music worthy of taking their place in the art song repertoire. Western music since Robeson is shot through with their influence, from Bob Dylan to Michael Tippett. Paul Robeson’s message of racial equality, human rights and the unifying power of music still demands to be heard and it could be given no greater champion than Willard White.

Appearing alongside Willard White on the album is Mercury Awards Prize Winner Guy Barker, along with Neal Thornton, Geoff Gascoyne, Richasrd Bolton and Mark Doffman.
