The New Orleans Helsinki Connection has been playing traditional New Orleans jazz with a youthful 21st century touch since its founding in 2001. The seven-piece lineup includes, in addition to trombonist Toivola, brilliant jazz luminaries: vocalist Tricia Boutte, trumpeter/vocalist Leroy Jones, guitarist Todd Duke, pianist Paul Longstreth, bassist Nobu Ozaki, and drummer Thomas Ronnholm. All the members represent the very best of this style in their homelands and have been playing together in various bands for years.

The New Orleans Helsinki Connection has performed on international festivals in for example Norway, Brazil, and Finland. In New Orleans, in addition to several local clubs and other venues, the NOHC has been seen at the French Quarter Festival, Satchmo Summer Fest, and Gentilly Fest.
