Daily D.I.Y. - Create a Video Sampler

I wrote yesterday about the importance of YouTube and suggested creative ways to use it to promote your project. A Hypebot reader reminded me of another video strategy that I've found very effective for introducing new fans and talent buyers to an artist: the video sampler.

A sampler is just a 3-5 minute mini-infomercial created by stringing together 15-45 second clips from live performances. You can do it raw with free editing software or add voiceovers, graphics and fancy fades. There are two examples after the jump. I've include a slick and effective presentation from The Machine who present theatre and symphony performances of the music of Pink Floyd.

There is also a rawer but still very effective video sampler frrom Hypebot reader Jon for his duo Montana Skies. “I think people are jaded to bio's and write-ups and video is a great way for people to get a sample of your performance and truly understand what you do, before they commit to going to a show," he wrote. “We've also created concert samplers of our shows and have concert presenters and promoters post them on their sites with our bio."
