SCAI in its ongoing efforts to bring high quality jazz to Chicago's South Side is presenting it's 8th annual Hyde Park/Kenwood JAAZ Festival Sunday, October 15, 2000, at the University of Chicago's Mandel Hall. Mandel Hall is located at 57th and University. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $15/$10 for students. Advance tickets are $10 and available at the Jazz Record Mart, 444 N. The theme for this years festival is JAAZ Revelations. The artist lineup feature some of the greatest names on the international jazz scene including vocalist Dee Alexander, saxophonist Fred Alexander, bassist Harrison Bankhead, saxophonist Gary Bartz, trombonist Steve Berry, pianist Kirk Brown, pianist Jodie Christian, saxophonist Billy Harper, pianist John Hicks, drummer Leon Joyce, percussionist Don Moye, violinist Sonya Robinson and trumpeter Malachi Thompson.
This years festival will also premiere new works by trumpeter/composer Malachi Thompson and performed by his critically acclaimed Freebop Band. These new works are commissioned for the festival by a grant from Meet The Composer Inc. and is dedicated to the jazz and cultural contributions by Chicago's South Side community to the development of American Culture.
This is going to be one of our most exciting festivals ever. JAAZ Revelations, expect to have one!
