URB ALT opens Friday, 10/24 at Crash Mansion NYC in junction with the world renowned CMJ Music Marathon. CMJ or the College Music Journal has been hosting it's marathon in multiple venues in NYC for well over a decade. URB ALT is the popular showcase and festival that the Village Voice claims is a “unique" music/film series featuring alternative artists that are “exemplars of boundary crossing, synthesis and unification."

Repping that flattering declaration for URB ALT @ CMJ are the experimental rock/soul septet MuthaWit; the soulfully electronic rock chanteuse Jihae; the proto-punk soul/rockers Tenderhead; and the avant garde electronica of AuntKeKe. Live video projection for URB ALT @ CMJ will be created by award-winning animator/filmmaker, Tim Fielder. The short film “Slapboxin': Quickness of the Hand" will be screened. The night is the official launch party for the new URB ALT website. Very importantly URB ALT @ CMJ is an important focal point for URB ALT's initiative to collect canned goods for its Feed the Hungry Drive. URB ALT founder Boston Fielder says “The URB ALT showcase has always been a cool way for us to create market presence for great artists that are flying slightly below the radar while displaying skills that we feel will have them swimming in mainstream waters in due time. We feel very fortunate to work with rising artists who exhibit tremendous social responsibility in their desire to give back through our Feed the Hungry Drive." The particulars follow:

URB ALT is Underground Railroad Broadcasting Alternatives, a music/film series and media company founded by Boston Fielder in 1998 to serve the creator and audience seeking unfiltered entertainment and artistic expression. The URB ALT Festival had it's third year of successful production in the summer of 2008.

About the artists:

Jihae: Multi-instrumentalist performer Jihae's new remix EP Afterthought features among many musicians Lenny Kravitz on bass, lead guitar; and Michel Gondry(director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) on percussion. The Side One: Track One website says “I'll never know how Jihae manages to use her deep, soulful voice and brooding electronic arrangements to make gems like this one, which is honestly nothing short of effortlessly engaging."

MuthaWit: This award-winning 7-15 piece group lead by Boston Fielder will be debuting several new songs from their upcoming album “Clipping Toenails While At War." The Wire, London says “MuthaWit are God's in the universe they created and these songs, which you must hear, are their Adam and Eve, cloned to a fallen and disrupted infinity."

Tenderhead: Singer/Songwriter/Actor/Model Shena Verrett's proto-alternative rock band Tenderheadhas recently been seen palling around with the William Morris Agency. The Audiologo blog declares that Tenderhead's brazen upcoming post punk melodic album, Ooze, “comes out with some burning guitar parts that are fiery cause they're saying something, not just because Verrett has the skills to bring the house down."

AuntKeKe: Avant-garde performance artist, AuntKeKe's work harkens back to the day when NYC musical artists radiated danger and sexuality onstage. Her creative background as a model, modern dancer and beat programmer gives her an irreverent confidence that says “If you reject my electro music because I'm not masturbating with long solos on an instrument, then you can kiss my grits (Flo style)."
