MySpace on Thursday will open up its “Data Availability" information-sharing initiative to the public so that any third-party Web site can allow MySpace users to put their profile information on their sites.

MySpace launched Data Availability in early May with Yahoo, eBay, Twitter , and Photobucket as initial partners. All developers will now have access to OAUTH APIs in order to add MySpace data to their sites.

With partners like Twitter, for example, users might see an “Import MySpace profile" button that lets Twitter users add content from MySpace, or opt to import that information when signing up for a new account.

Third-party sites will initially only be allowed to access basic profile information, photos, and friend networks, MySpace said. “We have built this on non-proprietary standards," MySpace said. “We have chosen OAUTH as our authentication mechanism because, just as we have embraced OpenSocial, we want to continue our commitment to openness and helping to propagate standards across the Internet."
