Billy Taylor and Soundpost Records are pleased to announce the release of the Billy Taylor Trio Live at IAJE, New York.

Billy Taylor Trio Live at the IAJE, New York was recorded at the 28th annual conference of the International Association of Jazz Education held on January 13, 2001 in New York City. A pioneer of the trio format, Taylor along with bassist Chip Jackson and drummer Winard Harper presented a heartfelt, very personal program here. His masterful, improvisational style and signature use of stride elements made for a most memorable performance best described by Taylor himself.

“This concert was really a tribute to my friends and colleagues who were named the NEA Jazz Masters of 2001: Frank Foster, Percy Heath and McCoy Tyner. The audience consisted largely of IAJE members and their extended families, affording me a rare occasion to perform for a roomful of my peers. I chose this particular program because it demonstrates musically, many of the things that I verbalize when I¹m asked to give lectures and demonstrations as part of a performance. “

Taylor's life-long dedication to jazz education and the development of jazz audiences is unparalleled. Billy Taylor Trio Live at IAJE, New York is yet another example of his tireless efforts in this regard. But it's his music that elicits the resounding, enthusiastic audience response heard here. Billy Taylor practices what he preaches--his music reaches out with open arms, enveloping the ears of jazz novices and seasoned veterans alike, inviting all to share in the joy and excitement that is this music called jazz.
