The Jazz Foundation of America honors Ann Johns Ruckert on Sunday, November 5th, 2006, 7:00 PM at Saint Peter's Church, 719 Lexington Avenue in a gala celebration with luminaries Nnenna Freelon, Gene McDaniels, George Coleman, Mike Longo, and Pepper Genie Swinson performing.
Ann Johns Ruckert has produced, played and/or sung on over 3,000 commercially released recordings, including national jingles for Luvs Diapers, the Burlington Coat Factory, Chevrolet, Mazda and C&S Bank.
She has worked with Michel LeGrand, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Merry Clayton, Sarah Dash, Quincy Jones, T Rex, and The Strawbs, and has been the musical coordinator for major motion pictures and TV soundtracks, such as Housesitter with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn, Boys On The Side with Whoopie Goldberg, and Lovesick with Dudley Moore.
Internationally known as a musician's musician, Ann studied orchestration and composition at Juilliard and London's Royal Academy of Music, as well as privately with Parisian teacher Nadia Boulanger, Helen Jordan and David Sorin Collyer. She furthered her education in Ethnomusicology at New York University graduate school.
She currently runs the production and management company Wisner Ruckert & Associates, with Jimmy The Wiz Wisner, has developed a record label, 13 Stories Records Inc. with partners Brian Muni and Marvin Conan, with a mission to support singer-songwriters, and continues her work as an award winning studio musician, projects coordinator, and freelance A&R person.
Ann co-founded the Jazz Foundation of America, together with pianists Dr. Billy Taylor and Herb Storfer. Inspired by the Jazz Museum, where she was Chairman of the Board of Directors, was on the board of Jazz Mobile for close to 20 years, and has been actively involved NARAS, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and World Hunger Year. She is one-of-a-kind and this award is overdue.
