Randall Kline, Founder and Executive Artistic Director of SFJAZZ, today announced artist lineup for the SFJAZZ Center’s 2013-2014 Season running September 5, 2013 to June 8, 2014. The award-winning SFJAZZ Center opened on January 21, 2013 in San Francisco’s vibrant Hayes Valley and has already been recognized as one of the best new performing arts centers in the country, receiving awards from architecture and acoustic organizations.
“It’s been an amazing and deeply gratifying year for SFJAZZ,” says Kline. “ Our 30-year dream to build a home for jazz in San Francisco came to fruition with the opening of our beautiful new center last January and its success has exceeded our hopes and expectations. We sold out more than 50 shows, doubled our membership to more than 7,000, and earned rave reviews from fans, musicians, and the media. We are excited to now present the organization’s most ambitious and expansive season of programming.”
The SFJAZZ Center programming is a rubric of what the building is designed and constructed to be—a home and a context for artistic conversations between audiences and artists. Each week, over four nights from Thursday to Sunday, a foundation is built with a thread running through each night that connects artists, musical styles, and geography with residencies, collaborations, themes, premieres, and projects. There will be special one-night-only performances, special events, and early afternoon concerts for the entire family.
The SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director program continues in Season 2. The program gives individual directors the opportunity to program, curate, perform, and participate in outreach and educational activities. The directors were selected based on each artist’s career, commitment to jazz, and understanding of the SFJAZZ mission. The SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director lineup includes three MacArthur “Genius” Fellows—pianist Jason Moran, violinist Regina Carter, and saxophonist Miguel Zenón along with Grammy-winning guitarist and Rasmuson Fellow Artist Bill Frisell, and Five-time Grammy-nominated percussionist and US Artists Fontanals Fellow John Santos.

Iconoclastic guitar master Marc Ribot showcases the diversity of his musical identity with a four-night residency. Randall Kline, Founder and Executive Artistic Director of SFJAZZ, today announced artist lineup for the SFJAZZ Center’s 2013-2014 Season running September 5, 2013 to June 8, 2014. The award-winning SFJAZZ Center opened on January 21, 2013 in San Francisco’s vibrant Hayes Valley and has already been recognized as one of the best new performing arts centers in the country, receiving awards from architecture and acoustic organizations.
“It’s been an amazing and deeply gratifying year for SFJAZZ,” says Kline. “ Our 30-year dream to build a home for jazz in San Francisco came to fruition with the opening of our beautiful new center last January and its success has exceeded our hopes and expectations. We sold out more than 50 shows, doubled our membership to more than 7,000, and earned rave reviews from fans, musicians, and the media. We are excited to now present the organization’s most ambitious and expansive season of programming.”
The SFJAZZ Center programming is a rubric of what the building is designed and constructed to be—a home and a context for artistic conversations between audiences and artists. Each week, over four nights from Thursday to Sunday, a foundation is built with a thread running through each night that connects artists, musical styles, and geography with residencies, collaborations, themes, premieres, and projects. There will be special one-night-only performances, special events, and early afternoon concerts for the entire family.
The SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director program continues in Season 2. The program gives individual directors the opportunity to program, curate, perform, and participate in outreach and educational activities. The directors were selected based on each artist’s career, commitment to jazz, and understanding of the SFJAZZ mission. The SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director lineup includes three MacArthur “Genius” Fellows—pianist Jason Moran, violinist Regina Carter, and saxophonist Miguel Zenón along with Grammy-winning guitarist and Rasmuson Fellow Artist Bill Frisell, and Five-time Grammy-nominated percussionist and US Artists Fontanals Fellow John Santos.

An NEA Jazz Master and arguably the most famous jazz musician alive, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis is an iconic figure in the evolution of the art form.
