Low Society

Mandy Lemons, winner of the 2015 Emissaries of Memphis Music Peoples Choice Award, and Sturgis Nikides, who recorded and toured with the legendary Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer, John Cale (of The Velvet Underground) - aka/Low Society - are blazing new trails on the stomping grounds of Blues Roots and Americana music. Texas Blues, Memphis Rock 'N Soul and a healthy dose of New York attitude help define the sound and spirit of their music. Their recordings have received critical acclaim world-wide, including numerous "best of " lists. Their albums have placed on the Roots Music Report Top 50 Blues & Top 50 Blues-Rock Album Charts as well as the prestigious Living Blues Magazine Top 25 Radio Chart. Sirius XM B.B. King's Bluesville has had their music in heavy rotation since the beginning of 2015 starting with their 2nd album 'You Can't Keep A Good Woman Down', and now continuing with their 3rd and latest release, 'Sanctified'.

Among their hundreds of live shows, Low Society has appeared at Clarksdale Mississippi's Juke Joint Festival 5 times, the 2012 BluesAlive Festival in the Czech Republic & Poland, and the prestigious 2015 Lucerne Blues Festival. They have also been regular performers on Beale Street since moving to Memphis.

The NEW album SANCTIFIED is a trans-Atlantic production with native Belgians Jacky Verstraeten on bass and Bart De Bruecker on drums (http://www.rawblues.be/), as well as Memphis legend Rick Steff back on the keys. The rhythm tracks were recorded at Closed Session Recording Studio in Roeselare, Belgium, by Kristof Maes. All additional recording and tracks were done back home - at American Recording Studio in Memphis, TN, with engineer Will Danger. Sanctified was released on May 1, and has been in daily rotation on XM Bluesville ever since. The album has been on the Roots Music Report Top 50 Blues-Rock Albums list since 5/15 and is receiving phenomenal press, worldwide! Tour dates are being booked now from Memphis, all the way to the Netherlands and beyond. Catch us on the road - we look forward to playing for you!

Low Society: Sanctified

Low Society's 2014 release You Can't Keep a Good Woman Down (2014, Ice House Records) was a revelation to me. I had long ago grown jaded believing that vibrant, genre-expanding blues and Americana had passed into extinction. Then I heard “Need Your Love," my ears stiffened and I sniffed the air... hmm, something special here. I previously described this most perfect of compositions as,“a most brilliant eutectoid of Texas Blues and pre-Weimar cabaret, with [Mandy] Lemons a Southern ...

Low Society: High Time

When one listens to a whole lot of music, it becomes easy to be lulled into the friendly confines of being satisfied with good without ever hearing great. That is, until something exceptional comes along and then it is experienced as an epiphany. So were my feelings hearing Low Society's 2014 release You Can't Keep a Good Woman Down (Ice House Records). That was my introduction to brand of American blues, country and soul, that, while contemporary, is completely authentic ...

Low Society: You Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down

Read "You Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

Let's not insult Low Society lead vocalist Mandy Lemons by noting she was influenced by Janis Joplin. That is the lazy critic's out. Better we describe her as the love child of a serious Amy Winehouse and Big Mama Thornton, irradiated by beta particles that had once passed by an AM radio, late at night, playing “Ball and Chain" in 1968. Lemons is a tornadic force of nature laying waste to all of the blues-rock produced since the 1960s. Lemons ...

Low Society's "Sanctified" - 2018 Grammy Awards, For Your Consideration

Low Society's "Sanctified" - 2018 Grammy Awards, For Your Consideration

Source: Sturgis Nikides

Attention Grammy members: For you consideration, Low Society's Sanctified is on the ballot for the 2018 Grammy Awards in the American Roots category. Low Society have a long way to go to actually win it, but their latest album Sanctified has been entered for consideration. The Memphis based band's music may be way too sexy for the Academy Members, but you must admit stranger things have happened in American elections recently. First Round Voting is now open to and members ...

“The two pack a naked pathos into a Plutonium suitcase, detonating it in slow motion as Sturgis Nikides delivers a measured and studied introduction, leading his new rhythm section into a slow and determined momentum upon which Mandy Lemons can lay her sack-o-woe. Sure Memphis has Barbeque, Stax, and The King...but come to Memphis to see this band... ” C. Michael Bailey, www.allaboutjazz.com 6/5/2016
