Multi-instrumentalist Scot Ray is an active and innovative musician/composer. Equally fluid on trombone, tuba, and dobro slide guitar, Ray has been featured on over five dozen recordings. Ray completed a degree in music from California Institute of the Arts in 1997 and then spent three years recording and touring with 'Stray Cat' Brian Setzer and his rockabilly orchestra. Ray received a Grammy for his work on “Caravan” from Setzer's 2000 release entitled Vavoom. Ray has also performed with Tony Bennett, Dionne Warwick, blues legend Cash McCall, jazz trumpeter Clark Terry, Elliot Easton of The Cars, Cuban conguero Francisco Aguabella, and pop diva Gwen Stefani; as well as working with such new music pioneers as Nels Cline, Vinny Golia, Alex Cline, Jeff Gauthier, Steuart Liebig, Michael Cain, Shaun Naidoo, Adam Lane, Ryan Francesconi, Bill Barrett, Tom Varner & Mark Dresser. Ray has recorded on numerous labels including Cryptogramophone, Nine Winds, Elektra/Asylum, Cadence, Interscope, Cornerstone, Win Records, Atlantic, & Polygram. He has performed in well over a dozen countries including appearances at the The DuMaurier Jazz Festival and Eddie Moore Jazz Festival. In addition to playing on numerous soundtracks, Ray has also performed on such prime time shows as Sessions At W. 54th Street, Conan O'Brien, Late Night with David Letterman, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Ray was recently named 'Rising Star' on trombone by Down Beat Magazine's 2004 Critic's Poll. Ray currently resides in a small mountain town in south western Montana - balancing his time between traveling, composing, and renovating, restoring and reinventing a turn of the century stage coach stop.

Recent CD releases that Ray can be heard on are: Scot Ray Quintet - Active Vapor Recovery (trombone), Gutpuppet - Bill Barrett & Scot Ray (dobro), Ryan Francesconi - rf falls (trombone & dobro), Shaun Naidoo - Smoke and Mirrors (trombone & dobro), Bill Barrett - Circle Of Willis (trombone), Rich West's Bedouin Hornbook (tuba), Jeff Kaiser/Ernesto Diaz-Infante Sextet (trombone), the upcoming Vinny Golia Large Ensemble Live DVD set (trombone). A new follow-up Gutpuppet recording is in the works for spring of 2005.
