Jonathan Parker is a saxophonist hailing from the Washington D.C. area currently residing in Shanghai, China. He graduated from The Oberlin Conservatory in 2008 where he studied under jazz legend Gary Bartz (performances with Miles Davis), as well as other world-class musicians including Marcus Belgrave, Billy Hart, and Dan Wall.
While attending Oberlin Conservatory, Jonathan had the opportunity to perform with many musical legends including Jimmy Heath, Dave Brubeck, and Slide Hampton. Outside of school Jonathan has shared the stage with other wonderful musicians including Terence Blanchard, Randy Brecker, Mulgrew Miller, and David Berkman.
In Washington D.C., Jonathan is an active performer and teacher, performing at such famous venues as The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Blues Alley Jazz Club, and Twins Jazz. Jonathan has also worked as a music and saxophone teacher at The Patricia M. Sitar Center for The Performing Arts.
Outside of Washington, Jonathan has performed at many other highly-regarded musical venues and schools including Carnegie Hall and Fat Cat Jazz Club in NYC, Stanford University in California, Skidmore College in New York, Night Town Jazz Club and The Bop Stop in Cleveland, OH.
In Shanghai, Jonathan has established himself as a vital and essential player in the ever-growing and diverse music scene. He currently works and can be hear with both foreign and native jazz musicians in venues including JZ Club, The Cotton Club, and CJW. Recently, Jonathan returned from a 4 month tour in Beijing with American jazz singer Frankye Kelly.
Now back in Shanghai, Jonathan looks forward to performing, entertaining, and educating audiences with his unique and jubilant sound and love for music, which have quickly become his hallmarks to eager audiences all over the world.
