Kenneth Salters

Kenneth Salters started his musical studies at age eleven when he began playing trombone in the sixth grade, but quickly switched to percussion a year later. Kenneth continued to grow in the field of percussion playing in different ensembles in high school including marching band, symphonic band, jazz ensemble, and the community's youth orchestra.

In 1999, Kenneth attended the University of South Carolina on a percussion performance track. He initially had a hard time focusing on a specific genre as he played in virtually every ensemble the university had to offer from drumset for the show choir, to lead pan in the steel orchestra, to playing in the pit for the university's operas. In the later half of his college career, he decided to concentrate fully on drumset, mainly in the jazz field.

After college Kenneth took on music full time working in the Columbia music scene playing everything from musicals at local theatres, to regularly scheduled jazz gigs, to playing in the city's latin jazz project.

Now Kenneth resides in New York City, playing various genres of music. He has played with such artist as Aretha Franklin, Bert Ligon, Chris Potter, Heather Bennett, Phil Palombi, Ada Rovatti, Sean Higgins, Mike Holstein, Karel Ruzicka, Brad Whiteley, Jeff Lofton, Wycliffe Gordon, Fred Wesley, Skip Pearson, Steve Houghton, Gordon "Dick" Goodwin, Ron Westray, Russ Johnson, John Valerio, Donald Brown, Philip Whack, Bryson Borgstedt, Matt Olson, Brian Mulholland, Robbie Anderson, Lee Barbour, Les Hall, and Andy Akiho.
