“Blues For Bonnie Belle” by Fred Hess
From
Speak (Alison) by Fred Hess
Editor's Comments
For Big Band Friday, we have a new one from saxophonist/composer Fred Hess. This is classic stuff, full of life. It's a good idea to check out the discography of Hess. There's some solid music there, as well as collaborations with Bill Frisell and Ron Miles.
About
Named for our dog that has a warm loving soul, but is mistrustful from her earlier experiences, this bi-tonal 12 bar blues seems to capture her personality and contains an inspired solo by trombone virtuoso, John Fedchock. The bass line is in the key of Eb, while the melody is in G. Solos are taken in both keys.
