“Ivy” by Rebecca Sullivan
From
This Way, This Time (Rhyme Or Reason Records) by Rebecca Sullivan
Editor's Comments
Going in a different direction for tonight's "Saturday, The Fringes" program. Sullivan brings a heavy folk influence to jazz, and when combined with Alleman's quirky guitar, it makes for an interesting combo.
About
"Ivy," the classic Hoagy Carmichael song written for the 1947 film of the same name, is here re-imagined in an innovative arrangement by Chicago jazz guitar great Mike Allemana. On the new CD, a collaboration between Mike and Rebecca Sullivan, a rising star on the vocal scene, Sullivan mixes affecting interpretations of infrequently heard standards and also contributes two originals.
