“Thus and So” by Marlene Rosenberg
This was a different kind of stroll. The opening statement started off on an odd note, but it stopped seeming odd with the rest of the tune that followed. On its face, a straight-ahead tune, but extremely engaging with the tweaks and twists Rosenberg throws at the listener. Neat! Jazz from the Chicago scene.
One of the more talented and multifaceted bassists on the scene, Marlene Rosenberg lives in Chicago and has performed throughout the world with countless jazz luminaries. On Bassprint, she features her Chicago quartet on a set of 9 modern originals and two compositions by a major influence, "Sunshower" and "Lullaby" by pianist Kenny Barron. Personnel: Marlene Rosenberg (bass), Scott Hesse (guitar), Geoff Bradfield (tenor & soprano sax), and Makaya McCraven (drums).
