“Return to Life” by Taeko Kunishima
Fiery tune that should appeal to fans of Cuong Vu's wailing notes stretching out over ominous bass lines and electronic undercurrents. Taeko's ensemble sounds like they're prowling after the listener. This was my introduction to Taeko's music, and I'll definitely be looking for more. Very exciting. Jazz from the London scene.
Taeko Kunishima's third album Late Autumn finds the pianist in a mood both lyrical and risk-taking. These nine original compositions fully display Taeko's way with a melody, but this is jazz with a thoroughly contemporary sound.
