“He venido de muy lejos” by Joan Sanmarti
From
Quatre Portes de Fes (New Mood Jazz records) by Joan Sanmarti
About
At the end of 2005, the members of Percussions de Barcelona asked me for a composition for percussion ensemble and guitar. They suggested that the composition could be somehow related to the North African cultures, and specifically to the atmosphere of the Great Bazaars.
During the process of searching material for the work I chanced on a legend ascribed to Moses Maimonides (1135-1204), thinker and philosopher. The old legend relates his
amazing flight from the town of Fes, through four of its well-known gates.
